This course surveys the basics of biblical theology of the Old and New Testaments from the standpoint of the Bible’s unfolding story of redemption. It takes into consideration the diverse literary, historical, and social contexts of this story and points to themes, truths, and processes that revealed God’s plan. The course introduces students to key elements of Christian doctrine and worldview. At the end of this course, the student will be able to:
Understand the history of the formation and text-forms of the Old and New Testaments.
Trace the main storyline of the Bible from the perspective of God’s unfolding plan of redemption.
Describe the key theological elements that emerge from the biblical books (or groups of books) as well as the integrative themes that unite the Bible.
Describe the key theological elements that emerge from the biblical books (or groups of books) as well as the integrative themes that unite the Bible.
Distinguish the historical, social, religious, and political contexts of the biblical worlds.
Select biblical principles and methods to engage critically and biblically with contemporary issues.
