What to expect:

In this learning experience, students will explore the shifting landscape of youth ministry as well as re-imagine ways to engage youth in the life of the church. Students will look at and beyond traditional approaches to youth ministry and help the learner determine appropriate biblically based strategies for their current context.

Ideally, Regenerating Youth Engagement will strive to equip learners with an understanding how of youth ministry can continue to transform in order to transform youth for the Kingdom.

  • Come to a deeper understanding of how youth ministry has been approached historically.

  • Examine foundational biblical principles related to engaging youth in the life of the church.

  • Come to a deeper understanding of and appreciation for developmental and cultural challenges that youth and those who minister to youth confront.

  • Gain a sense of paradigm shifts occurring in youth ministry philosophy & strategy.

  • Explore what it means to adjust youth ministry strategies contextually.

Meet Jana Sundene

Jana Sundene

Professor Jana Sundene has been preparing students in the area of Christian Ministries at Trinity International University since 1990. She has a BA from Wheaton College and a master's in communication studies from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School with an emphasis in interpersonal and group communication theory. She also holds an MA in communication theory from Northern Illinois University. Before coming to Trinity, Jana spent 10 years doing Youth Ministry at churches in Illinois and California. Most of her time has been spent teaching and mentoring youth and emerging adults and serving at her local church. She is the co-author of Shaping the Journey of Emerging Adults.
